Edward M. Donnelly Interview - Author of Out of the Light of Darkness

Edward M. Donnelly is an author and high school English teacher with two books published Eddy’s Life Poetry (published 6/6/2011) and Out of the Light of Darkness (published 03/28/2013). Both books have received excellent reviews and 5 stars from readers. Edward’s newest book Out of the Light of Darkness “is a compelling collection of short stories that deal with ephemeral moments, unforgettable relationships, and death”. You will also find a longer story (novella) about a teen looking for goodness in this father.

Edward kindly agreed to be interviewed and tells us a little more about himself and his work.

Relaxing with a Good Book (KJ): What inspired you to start writing?

Edward Donnelly: When I was a kid, I would create stories in my mind, but I didn't write them down until I was older. Once I wrote my first story, I couldn't stop. I fell in love with words.

Relaxing with a Good Book (KJ): What would you say is your specific writing style?

Edward Donnelly: I would describe my style as clean and rough around the edges, with just enough detail to leave a lingering image.

Relaxing with a Good Book (KJ): What books have most influenced your life most?

Edward Donnelly: I read the Catcher in the Rye as a kid and have read it 10 more times since. Holden has a distinct voice. My students either love or hate him. Another favorite of mine is Veronica Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho. It is about a girl who survives a suicide attempt and discovers that she has 5 days to live. Enlightening story.

Relaxing with a Good Book (KJ): Do you have any advice for other writers?

Edward Donnelly: My advice for writers is to grab a cup of coffee and start writing. Write about things that are relevant and meaningful to you. Put your heart out there. If it gets stomped on, pick it up and put it back in your chest. Keep writing.

Relaxing with a Good Book (KJ): Can you tell us a little about Out of the Light of Darkness?

Edward Donnelly: Out of the Light of Darkness is about finding a red rose in the darkness of the sea. It is about a kid who is trying to step out of his shadow to communicate with the people he loves, but he often lives in his own world. It is a story about life, friends, and the enormous power of love.

Relaxing with a Good Book (KJ): In the book Out of the Light of Darkness, are any of the short stories based on someone you know or experiences?

Edward Donnelly: Out of the Light of Darkness is loosely based on people who I have known or had brief encounters with. Smoke was inspired when my dad took me out for my first beer. I can remember every detail of that day.

Relaxing with a Good Book (KJ): I particularly liked “Smoke” I believe it brought out a sense of realty in life when you get older, what is really important not what someone thinks is important when they are young.

Relaxing with a Good Book (KJ): I know you wrote a small short story Drifting Leaves is your plan to possibly incorporate this into an erotica novel or novella?

Edward Donnelly: Drifting Leaves was my experiment with erotica. I really enjoyed writing it. I wanted to write about sex between two lovers in a sensual way. I tried to use all of the senses to draw readers into the moment. I want to continue experimenting; it is refreshing and different from what I normally write.

I would like to thank Edward for taking the time to be interviewed and answer all of my questions. :-)

Morgan Rayne - Spring Tower Series

Morgan Rayne is a brand new author that has recently published her first book A Different Kind Of Fairy Tale on December 21, 2012 and a month later she published her second book Let Me Love You on January 29, 2013. Both of these are a part of a new series call Spring Towers…that’s right there will be more, which once you read these you will be hooked!

Both of these books have an adult content rating – however they do not compare to Fifty Shades (they are much softer) and I am sure most of us have read those! J
If you are looking for a sexy, fun romantic love story series, the Spring Towers series are a must read. You will pick up on hints into further books while reading, which makes you want to read the next one that much more. FYI: You can find these novellas at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

**My Reviews from Goodreads**
A Different Kind Of Fairy Tale (Spring Towers #1)
This book was great! I am so glad that I choose to download this to my Nook and read it! I have found a new series that I am addicted too! I hope that you will continue writing romance novels!
Amazing series!

Let Me Love You (Spring Towers #2)

Oh my goodness, I am in love with this series! This story had so much to it, that I had such a hard time putting it down! I loved the first one and now the second one...I cannot wait until more come out! I will definitely be looking for Victoria's story and everyone after that!

Maya Cross is a #1 Must Read! Check out the review below and pick this book up today, you will not regret it!

My Review for Maya Cross’s Lockout (The Alpha Group #2)

“5 stars”
“I thought I loved the first book "Locked", I was just as in love with this book as I was the first one, maybe even more. I spent less than a day reading this and could not put it down, I was so sad when it finished. However I am glad to know that the third book will be out very shortly and I will be counting the days until I can read it.

I love the characters, their love story is amazing, there is nothing like have a great book or romance unfold before you. The fact that it keeps you guessing it what keeps a reader coming back. Maya you have done an amazing job, please keep writing erotica novels so your fans can keep reading!”

Real Quick...

I just posted pictures of the new Fairy Tale Flirts 2! 5 Romantic Short Stories covers, this has just hit the market this week! YAY!!! Lisa Scott is an amazing author that is from Central New York, which is even more exciting since I am a fellow Central New Yorker :). If you have never read her books, I am sorry to tell you that you have not been reading the right books or in this case short stories. These short stories are fun, loving and draw you in until the very end. One of my favorite things about these short stories is they are all tied together in one form or another, the characters that is. I enjoy reading stories that you know the endings are going to make you fall in love with the characters and make you want to keep the author in your "must read more" list.

If you have read Lisa Scott's work then you know exactly what I mean, and you have probably already read Fairy Tale Flirts (the first "Fairy Tale Flirts" short stories book)...A MUST READ! If you are new to the author Lisa Scott, take the time to check out her work, you will not be disappointed. You can find her on goodreads, facebook and of course her books are on Barnes and Noble, Amazon and I am sure many more.

I hope you take the time to look, sometimes the authors you have never heard of end up becoming your "must read" author(s).

Happy Reading Everyone!

Check them out! :)

Amazing Author(s)

When I started using Barnes & Noble’s Nook app, I came to realize how many amazing authors and books there are out there that were not only amazing to read, but many of them were FREE or so close to free you wouldn’t mind missing a dollar or two.. I don’t just mean a handful, I mean thousands. When I discovered this I felt like I had just discovered a very well kept secret, or maybe I was just behind with the times…HA HA. Ever since I discovered this, I am constantly searching for a new and upcoming author to read or just a onetime amazing story and I am here to say I have found not just a few but too many to count! I have been more than amazed and I have become an addict for my Nook app.

With saying that I would like to share with you one of the authors I have recently discovered this year that I am so excited I was lucky enough to find.

Chanda Hahn – Author – Young Adult, but enjoyable by all!

“An Unfortunate Fairy Tale”

#1 UnEnchanted (published 2011) – (Nook) Barnes & Noble $ 0.00

#2 Fairest (published 2012) – (Nook)Barnes & Noble $ 3.99

#3 Fable (coming soon, Summer 2013)

I have personally read both UnEnchanted and Fairest and cannot wait until Fable is release (VERY EXCITED)!

Chanda also has other works that I have not had the pleasure of reading quite yet (but they are on my TO-DO list), however the reviews are excellent.

“The Iron Butterfly Series”

#1 – The Iron Butterfly (published 2012) – (Nook) Barnes & Noble $ 0.00

#2 – The Steele Wolf (published 2012) – (Nook) Barnes & Noble $ 2.99

#3 – The Silver Siren (coming soon, Fall/Winter 2013)

My Review for “An Unfortunate Fairy Tale” series…

Mina Grime is constantly having accidents that are caused by her and has weird things just keep happening, talk about unlucky. Her mother always seems on edge and over protective with Mia and if she was to tell her about what has been going on, her mother will pack them up and move. When Mia finds out the truth about not being a Grime and actually being a Grimm (related to the fairy tale Grimm Brothers), she is hesitant to understand the severity of the situation and what her near future holds. Throughout the book Mia will endure heartbreak, growing friendships and worst of all very near death situations. With being a descended of the Grimm Brothers comes a curse and the curse is hot on Mia’s tale. For every story “curse” the Grimm Brothers did not complete, Mia is forced to face unforgettable Fairy Tales, and these are not ones you will remember from when you were a child. To survive Mia will have to complete many fairy tales…is she strong enough?

I think that anyone that reads this book will enjoy this story as much as I have. And just when you think that the story is over, there is #2 Fairest and coming soon #3 Fable.

If you have read this book, comment and let me know what you think.

Happy Reading!

2013 Reading Challenge

A couple of months ago I discovered goodreads….can you say love at first login! I have recently become more active on it since I had wanted to read more and I have found this is an excellent site to find new and upcoming authors, along with fantastic books (which I will get into more later on). Barnes and Nobles is an excellent site as well to find new books, authors and more, but goodreads just feels like it has that extra spark to let you get to know your author, upcoming due dates on a new book, new pieces of work and of course where you can purchase some of this novels, novellas, etc. (minus the purchasing of the book itself).

Anyways enough of my rambling and back to my point…goodreads had posted about a 2013 reading challenge, HOW FUN! Not only had I made myself a resolution but there is one posted to see other people that enjoy reading and challenging themselves as well. So my challenge for you is, see how many books (no matter the length) you can read this year. You may be surprised and find yourself a little less stressed.

Let me know your thoughts.

Happy Reading!

~New Blogger~

Welcome to the world of blogging (telling myself). So I have talked myself into trying something new and blogging about books came to mind. I am not a writer nor do I have a book in the process, even though I have always wanted to write a book and the passion to do it is there, I just don’t know what to write about. This is my first step to that…a blog about books that I have read or am reading.

I made a small New Year’s resolution with myself to read more this year and so far I feel I have done an excellent job, even with taking a couple months off (due to a move semi-cross country and then looking for a new job-all very time consuming).

So here goes nothing… Happy Reading!
